Kerri’s Kandies taste so sweet, Big Ben would tell it’s time to leave Jolly Ole England for America if only he had feet. Certainly, Kerri’s husband would concur. The King to Kerri’s Queen of Kandyland, Frank moved here from his beloved UK. He was lured across the pond by Kerri’s intoxicating concoctions, not to mention the High Priestess of Sweet Treats, herself, the delightful Kerri.
Kerri’s Kandies of Coram have been family owned and operated since 1991. Since then they have accrued a devoted fan base of candy connoisseurs. It is the kind of place that could turn even the most cynical customer into a kid in a candy store.
Kerri’s Kandies emanates from the humble beginnings of Kerri whipping up homemade molded chocolates for loved ones out of her kitchen (where she can still be found cultivating her Kandies.) However, her savory morsels were so scrumptious that they begged to be shared with the world. In 1991, Kerri rented a storefront where her grandfather grew up. Kerri’s Kandies was officially opened as a place to make and sell her molded chocolate.
Kerri’s Kandies provides specialty chocolates for Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Valentine’s Day. As, no Candyland would be complete without gummy bears, jars of candy, peanuts, gum drops, truffles, cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, and gift baskets, Kerri’s Kandies of course contains all of the above. In addition, adult molds are tucked away discretely in the inner sanctum of this chocolate lovers Paradise.
Kerri as the owner and president is responsible for the creation of the molded chocolates. “I like bringing things to life.” Kerri gushed proudly. “ My goal is to produce quality quickly!” Her husband Frank is the manager. “We make a good team.” says Frank of their joint endeavor.
While, Kerri is more reserved and mysterious. A trait that Frank confessed is what initially drew him to her. Frank is outgoing and extremely personable. He dresses up as a bunny during Easter time and is the voice for the radio commercials. “People come in and they tell me that they recognize my voice.” says Frank in his soothing English accent. His voice warm and inviting could put anyone at ease feeling all is right with the world.
Kerri is also the president for the not-for-profit organization Declan’s Well Foundation. Frank is the secretary. Declan Kubik is a 2 year old boy, recently diagnosed with cancer. Kerri’s Kandies supplied chocolate for a cocktail party given by the foundation in late August. The event was held at the charming Violet’s Cove restaurant in Mastic Beach. Over 200 people were in attendance with more than $25,000 raised. “We had a great event and a wonderful turnout.” exclaimed Kerri.
Kerri’s Kandies, unlike most places uses only real chocolate instead of melting wafer (a chocolate compound.) Kerri informed that just like real love “real chocolate tastes better, lasts longer, and it’s healthier for you!)
